Do you ever wonder what you would do if you knocked out a tooth? If so, Dr. Steven Rodriguez knows exactly what to do and he would be happy to teach you! With his tips, you could have a restored and improved smile.
The first thing you need to do is find the tooth. When you do, only pick it up by the crown, which is the white section of the tooth that was visible when the tooth was still in place. Then, if it’s dirty, rinse it by putting it in a bowl of tap water. As you rinse it, please do not scrub it. Once it’s clean, keep it in a safe place.
The next thing you need to do is rinse your mouth with warm water to wash any blood and debris away. It’s also best to try and stop the bleeding, if there is any. You can do so by putting a gauze pad on the area and applying pressure. When the area is clear, try to put the tooth back into place. Make sure you put it back in the right position.
Lastly, if you can’t put the tooth back in the socket, you need to keep it moist and alive. This can be done by putting the tooth in a cup of milk or saliva, in a tooth-preservation product (you can purchase one at the store), or between your cheek and gums. Make sure you keep the tooth in one of these places until you see your dentist.
